Here’s a quick reminder for us both.
Feeling depleted, exhausted, and disengaged IS NOT NORMAL NOR SUSTAINABLE!
If you feel like you can't keep up with the demands of your job, your family, and your social life, read along.
Just like that funny meme of Oprah touching her hands in money giving, extravaganza, sometimes it feels like burnout was distributed equally to all at birth!
I have definitely had my fair share of burnout! Last year, for example, I had an intense burnout episode after I did a marketing launch that didn’t go to plan.
Burnout is a common problem that many people face. In this episode, I share how to identify and overcome burnout before it destroys your productivity, happiness, and health.
Something that works for me? Working on my personal growth and knowing what aligns vs what does not align in my life has helped tons. This incredible sense of self-awareness that I feel is now helping with strategies to mitigate burnout in all aspects of my business and life! Why?
Burnout doesn't have to be permanent. Recovering the energy you need and finding fulfilment in your work can be done!
The best thing that has ever happened to me was being burnt out, so I've learned what not to do and how not to do it so I can clear the path for you! Here are some strategies that can help you right away.
/// FIND A CREATIVE OUTLET (OR TWO)
Creativity is a great way to prevent burnout. When you're feeling drained, spending time on creative projects can help rejuvenate you. It can also be helpful to find another creative person with whom you can share ideas and collaborate.
/// TAKE A BREAK
If you're feeling overwhelmed, take some time for yourself. Relax in your own way. Take a trip to the beach, read a book on a hammock under the stars, or go for a walk in nature.
/// FIND WAYS TO RELAX AND RECHARGE
Taking care of yourself is important if you want to prevent burnout. So try these tips: get enough sleep (at least seven hours per night), eat healthy foods, and exercise regularly.
Understanding your circadian rhythm can be key here!
/// TALK TO SOMEONE
If you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed, talking to someone can be helpful. Venting to a friend or family member can help lighten your load. You may also want to consider talking to a therapist if the problem is more serious.
I love a technique called ‘download’ where you literally tell someone,’ I want to vent and download. I don't want solutions’ and the other person agreeing just to listen.
/// CREATE A PLAN
When you know what causes your burnout, you can create a plan to avoid it. For example, if work is causing stress in your life, consider taking on fewer tasks or delegating some of them.
/// TAKE TIME OFF FROM SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media can be overwhelming and stressful at times. So take time away from it whenever possible by going on vacation or simply unplugging for a weekend.
/// REMEMBER, YOU'RE NOT ALONE
Many people experience burnout at some point in their lives. You're not alone in this. Lean on your friends and family for support during these tough times. Please reach out to a medical professional should you feel it’s just too much to handle.
Remember to take things one step at a time and to be patient with yourself you're on this journey for the long haul, so enjoy it! And most importantly, don't forget to take care of yourself.
I hope you found these tips helpful. Now it's time to get out there and prevent burnout in your own life! Prevention is key after all :)
